You really can’t go wrong with Sangria. I mean your basically eating a bunch of fruit, which means it’s healthy, right? The first time I tried this heavenly drink was in Barcelona, Spain. I was immediately hooked. When I was 13, my family and I spent an entire summer in Barcelona fell in love with every single thing about it. You don’t find many places with a beautiful beach, mountains close by, and a thriving city. Barcelona has it all. Oh and the food…it’s incredible. My mom would take us to the market and let me get my own baguette for 50 cents. I would carry it around the city snacking on it throughout the day. You’re probably thinking, it’s just bread..but no, it was the best bread. Fresh, warm, soft, and a little toasty on the outside. And then you have the Sangria. Since I wasn’t of age, I didn’t get to try much that summer, but would get a sip or two every now and then. However, my Junior year of college, we came back and I was able to try plenty. Since then, I’ve been back one other time and the first thing I do is order Sangria. Although, I’ll probably never be able to get my sangria to taste like Spain, this recipe comes pretty close!
Ingredients:
2 apples
2 oranges
40-50 grapes
1/2 cup Spanish Brandy (or any Brandy, depending on how fancy you want to be)
1/2 cup orange juice
1 bottle Spanish Wine (or any good red wine. I used Shiraz)
Directions:
Dice the apples
Cut the oranges into quarters
Cut the grapes in half
Add all the fruit into the pitcher
Pour in the brandy, wine and orange juice
Stir and refrigerate
There are many varieties of sangria. This recipe is more of a traditional red sangria, but you can also make white sangria, peach sangria, extra sweet sangria, etc. Try using different fruit and add sparkling water to make it bubbly.
Cheers!
