The Beauty of a Stopover

stopover

Most people assume that a long layover is a bad thing. However, that’s not always the case. Sometimes you can even get a better deal on a preferred airline by allowing a long layover - otherwise known as a stopover. Think of it as getting to see another country or city for free! Icelandair is known for having one of the best stopovers. When you fly Icelandair you can choose to stopover in Iceland at no extra cost. How cool is that?! Below are some tips on the best ways to find stopovers.

how to find stopovers:

  • Google Flights - when using Google Flights search for one way tickets to your desired destination. Scroll down to connecting flights and look for travel times that seem longer than usual. On the very right you will see location and length of the stopover or layover. You can also look for a "+1" number, which is another sign that a stopover is included at no extra charge.

  • TripAdvisor - this travel search engine will show you a multitude of connecting flights that include stopovers.

  • Stopover Airlines - Airlines such as: TAP Portugal, Icelandair, Air Canada, KLM, WOW Air, Finnair and more are very well known for including a stopover. Take a look at their website to see what kind of stopovers they currently offer.

Happy Traveling. And remember - Don’t overlook long layovers!
