Beijing is the capital of China and also the 2nd largest city. Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to visit this busy city, but my parents have been many times. My parents taught me almost everything I know about budget travel and gave me a list of their favorite things to see and do while in Beijing. They added that the list of things to do could go on forever, but here are their top 5:
Shop at Hongqiao Market – also known as the Pearl Market, this four story building is filled with quality jewelry at a discount.
Walk the Great Wall – see one of the world’s most iconic wonders stretching miles and miles along the mountain ridges north of the city.
Try the Peking Duck – Beijing’s famous food dish. Traditionally carved in front of the diners and served in three stages.
Tour the Forbidden City – an entire city within the city of Beijing. Built in the 1400’s, it was once the imperial palace for 24 emperors.
Tea Tasting – China is famous for tea, and Beijing offers many different tea-tasting experiences. Take a class to learn about the significance and culture behind China’s tea or sample tealeaves at the numerous tea shops located throughout the city.
