I recently went in for a facial with my fav aesthetician and bff, Amanda Woodman. I loved it so much that I had to share.
My skin has never felt or looked this good in at least 10 years lol. I got the HydraFacial, and it worked some major miracles. Plus there was no pain, and now my skin is super glowy!
Being best friends with a medical aesthetician comes with many perks, one of those being a lot of skincare knowledge. Thankfully, Amanda is a generous gal, and agreed to share some of her top skincare essentials with you all!
Enjoy :)
Question + answer
As a medical aesthetician, what do you do?
I see patients after plastic surgery to help guide them through skin health to maintain results, take down swelling and show them how to cover bruising. I sell skincare and pick medical grade regimens for patients, makeup and sell makeup, lasers, chemical peels, microneedling, Dermaplaning, HydraFacial, etc.Favorite part about your job?
My fave part is completely transforming skin, helping acne, pigment, pore size and brightening the overall complexion , and making people feel good.Number one skincare product?
Retinol- or Retin A, along with a simple healthy regimen to keep the skin balanced and getting nutrients.Top 3 skincare tips?
- Wear sunscreen- Use QUALITY Products (important just like your diet to have the proper nutrients for skin)
- Get facials! At least every 8 weeks
What is a HydraFacial?
This is a special facial that performs a facial by using a multifunction machine run by an esthetician. It exfoliates/cleans, extracts, peels, hydrates/plumps the skin with great ingredients, nutrients, and chemicals. It is great for all skin types and can be specialized per each patient. It does everything! It’s a very “red carpet ready facial” all the stimulation and peptides/nutrients allows for instant satisfaction for the patient. What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is the physical exfoliation of the skin using a little tool. It also removes vellus hair on the face-which is a plus people love. It’s great for dead skin cell removal and build up. It’s great for everyone. It’s an instant glow and allows products to penetrate well.Best way to prevent fine lines and wrinkles?
No sun, no smoking, treat your skin like you would treat a babies skin. With love. Get treatments and use good products, invest in a Clarisonic to cleanse, NEVER sleep with makeup on, drink lots of water. Why should you get a facial?
You should get a facial to properly cleanse and deeply exfoliate the skin, also for correction of skin issues such as acne or pigmentation etc. Things like microneedling or chemical peels can really correct texture. 80% is what you do at home BUT its nice to have someone who knows what they are doing get down and dirty and do the work for you.How often should you get a facial?
Once every 4-8 weeks depending on your age and needs. What skincare products do you sell?
SkinCeuticalsFavorite makeup product?
Makeup. All of it. I love a good primer and a beauty sponge is a MUST. OH and wash your brushes regularly! Can’t live without my Marc Jacobs bronzer OR any ambient lighting powder from Hourglass *two faves of mine.Best advice on how to take care of your skin while traveling?
Bring your most “essential” products and stay on the same washing am and pm routine. Most companies make sample size, so ask your esthetician if they offer any. I supply my patients that travel a lot with mini samples of their routine that can be brought on the plane. Also getting a treatment before vacation so your skin is nice and exfoliated.
#1 Tip
Don’t spend hundreds of dollars on trendy masks and products you see work for other people. It’s better to use quality and know what you are doing than over abuse the skin with junk. Do your research.
Just bc a product is expensive and people on social media use it doesn’t mean it works, if it did we would carry it in medical offices, and it wouldn’t be sold at Walmart.
#1 Tip for acne patients
Don’t pick unless it’s a must, turn out the bright bathroom light and get a night light, then wash your face and don’t dwell on your flaws. Trust in your product to do the work NOT your fingertips.
